PS-InSAR Based Monitoring of Land Subsidence by Groundwater Extraction for Lahore Metropolitan City, Pakistan

Groundwater dynamics caused by extraction and recharge are one of the primary causes subsidence in urban environment. Lahore is second largest metropolitan city Pakistan. The rapid expansion this area due to high population density has increased demand for groundwater meet commercial household needs. Land inadequate long been a concern Lahore. This paper aims present persistent scatterer interferometry synthetic aperture radar (PS-InSAR) technique monitoring recent land Lahore, based on Sentinel-1 data obtained from January 2020 December 2021. PS-InSAR techniques very efficient cost-effective, determining providing useful results. Areas discharge prone ?110 mm, while surroundings show an uplifting +21 mm during study period. exposes detail, particularly when subsoil characterized alluvial clay deposits large building structures. type observation quite satisfactory similar ground-based surface deformation pertinent rate. Results will enable more effective planning, infrastructure building, risk assessment related subsidence.
